Swannanoa Artists’ Collective Presents: One Year After Helene
Historically, art has been the way communities express themselves while trying to make sense of the world around them.
After Hurricane Helene hit WNC, a group of artists living in and around the Swannanoa area organized to create multiple art responses to what they experienced focused on supporting each other and promoting healing in our town and community. These pieces not only express the artists’ reactions to the hurricane and the damage our community sustained but will also feature stories from local citizens whose lives were impacted.
This exhibition of Swannanoa’s local artists includes works of painting, sculpture, photography, mural, quilting, fiber art, video installation, and multimedia geolocated installations. Through this project we aim to honor our community’s hardship and come together in mutual support to help us move forward in recovery.
