Big News! The Whitson Avenue Bridge (aka Beacon Bridge and Swannanoa Bridge) is set to reopen this Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting at 12 noon!
Nearly five month after the disastrous floods from Hurricane Helene, the North Carolina Department of Transportation is reopening the Whitson Avenue bridge, a critical link between the north and south sides of Swannanoa. The Swannanoa Grassroots Alliance, with the support from DOT, will mark this important event for the community with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the bridge between new and old 70 on Whitson Avenue.
Buncombe County Commissioners are expected to attend the ceremony. Representatives of the NCDOT will also be present. The ribbon will be cut by Steve Senn, a local businessman whose building, Live Edge Wood across the street from the bridge, was destroyed by the flood.
Let’s join in celebrating this important milestone in Swannanoa’s Recovery!
